Explore the world of journalism in this 12-hour programme led by a professional journalist.
Designed for secondary schools, this is a school programme suitable for a class size of 10-12 individuals. The course is set over six lessons (two hours each), with at least one of these taking place at the SCMP office.
This interactive course aims to immerse participants in the world of news journalism and includes a tour of a working newsroom at SCMP. At the end of this programme, students will leave with their very own original news article, finished to publishing standards.
*Available for school partners only. If you are a parent, please ask your child's school to apply for this course.
Get to the heart of life as a journalist and learn the key skills needed to work at a professional newspaper, straight from the experts at SCMP.
The programme opens with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how a news agency operates, giving a practical insight into what being a journalist is really like.
From there, participants can expect a comprehensive introduction to the very basics of journalism. They will gain practical knowledge in journalistic writing, and master the professional language structure and storytelling techniques needed to create compelling news features. They can hone their communication skills, and build confidence in speaking and listening by learning how to conduct interviews with subjects. And they'll also strengthen their logical thinking and data analysis through hands-on research projects.
Most importantly, by exploring important social issues through the lens of journalism, participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the world we live in.
