Discover what it takes to research, write, and publish a news feature in this 12-hour programme led by a professional journalist.
Designed for secondary schools, this is a school programme suitable for a class size of 10-12 individuals. The course is set over six lessons (two hours each), with at least one of these taking place at the SCMP office.
This interactive course aims to immerse participants in the world of news journalism and includes a tour of a working newsroom at SCMP. At the end of this programme, students will leave with their very own original printed news publication.
*Available for school partners only. If you are a parent, please ask your child's school to apply for this course.
Here, participants will gain an insight into the inner workings of a newspaper publication, cultivating their teamwork skills as they work together with their class to create an original news feature.
Along the way, they’ll get to discover the role of research and data analysis in developing captivating story angles, learn the art of editing and sub-editing from an SCMP professional, and elevate their English language proficiency by studying exemplary journalistic writing. There’ll also be opportunities to build photography skills, and to practice English speaking by interviewing subjects.
Above all, by delving into and reporting on pressing societal matters, this course hopes to inspire its participants to cultivate their social consciousness and engagement.
